Arrival at MVD airport

You will arrive at the airport and usually a bus will transport the plane's passengers to the main terminal at the Montevideo International Airport.

1. Clear customs
Have your passport ready and do not use any mobile phones while standing in line. Simple process and takes about 3 minutes. You will show your passport and the attendant will stamp your passport showing your arrival into Uruguay.

2. You will pass your carry-on bags through an x-ray and head towards the baggage claim.

3. Baggage claim - just like the US airports - carousels that will distribute the bags.

TIP!! Grab a basket (free of charge) to load up the bags - they go quickly so do this first and then just smile and say "no thank you" to the bag boys that will try to help.

4. GUNS - if you are entering Uruguay with a gun - You will see it on the floor OR you may see it on the luggage carousel. Just grab it like all other luggage and look for a guide or host associated with Rio Branco Lodge, Fortin Lodge, and/or Estancia Elena.

NO GUNS just luggage - just proceed to the x-ray and proceed. Some bags will be opened and checked. Just a standard international airport safety process.

Important that you DO NOT try to enter Uruguay with your own ammunition or anything hazardous. You will not pass this point and unfortunately will miss the Uruguay hunting activities. Do not do it. You will get caught.

This applies for the departure as well - DO NOT try to "sneak" a bird into your luggage. You risk missing your flight and having to talk to a lot of people and spending non-quality time in Uruguay.

OK now back to the excitement of arriving in Uruguay and getting ready to transfer to the lodge(s).

The hunting licenses will be signed and the guide will hang on to them for security while you take part in the Uruguay bird hunting during the week.

5. Arrival into the main lobby of the airport - Welcome to Montevideo - you will depart sliding glass doors and see some smiling faces awaiting passengers. Look for a sign and please wear your Los Gauchos hat for our guides to easily find you.

Montevideo is a small airport so do not panic, most of the time our guides find you first.

There is coffee, pastries, sandwiches located just to the left when you exit the glass doors into the main airport lobby. You will also find bathrooms (Baño) with pictures to easily distinguish males -female bathrooms.
