Rio Branco Lodge - Uruguay Duck Hunting Club

This lodge is located in the rice field and marshes in the northeast part of Uruguay. WIth low hunting pressure, thousands of acres of rice and endless supply of water sources, this is as close to duck hunting paradise as one can be.

The lodge is a comfortable lodge built for 8 duck hunters (double occupancy) and private baths. The main room is the living room with access to the fireplace, comfortable chairs, a satellite tv, and of course lots of wonderful home made food and local beverages as well as the common soft drinks and bottled water.

Uruguay Duck Hunting Trip Information


When: Uruguay duck hunting is available May to August and trips are 3, 4, or 5 days in length.

Where: Los Gauchos provides full duck hunting - AM and PM duck hunts in the northeast part of Uruguay, near the area of Rio Branco. Here the rice farms and fields are large and the crops are professionally maintained and irrigated. Thus, the water source and the food source is ideal for ducks and Uruguay sees volumes of about 7 species each season. Los Gauchos recommends flying into Montevideo, Uruguay (MVD) and transfer by van to the Uruguay Duck Hunting Club/Lodge. The drive time is about 4 hours and don't worry snacks and stops are included in the drive. Uruguay is a beautiful country and the drive is pleasant on national highways and several ranches and farms along the way that showcase the various "estancias" or ranch homes and animals such as sheep, cattle, ostriches and more will be seen.

Who: any true watefowler that is ready for some hard hitting duck hunting action. Just like the good ole days, this duck hunting is something you will want to come back to-season after season. Liberal limits, good variety of ducks, mild winters, and outsanding guides and equipment - enough to make Uruguay the perfect duck hunting destination.

What: what types of ducks does Uruguay have each season? The Uruguay ducks include: Brazilian Ducks, Speckled Teal, Ringed Teal, Silver Teal, White-Faced Tree Ducks, Yellowbilled Pintails, Rosybilled Pochards, and duck hunters will sometimes come across Black-headed ducks, Chiloe Widgeon, and Red Shovelers. Of course this is duck hunting, so environmental factors can affect the species that you encounter on your Uruguay duck hunt. The larger ducks tend to migrate into Uruguay mid June. However, May is excellent with teal and a fresh large volume of ducks coming to feed, most ducks in Uruguay have never seen a decoy nor a hunter, so May is excellent for the volume of ducks in Uruguay.
